BIOSEA
“Innovative cost-effective technology for maximizing aquatic biomass-based molecules for food, feed and cosmetic applications”
BIOSEA Project, started in June 2017 and with a duration of 36 months, has as its general objective the development and validation of innovative, competitive and profitable processes for the cultivation of different types of microalgae and macroalgae as well as the valuation of biomass thereof, to produce and extract high-value, low-cost active ingredients. The application of these compounds in high added value products in the fields of human and animal nutrition, health and cosmetics is also contemplated among the project objectives.
Algae and microalgae are important sources of compounds of high nutritional value, beneficial for human and animal health; however, the technologies used to obtain these compounds still need further development to reduce the high costs of the industrial extraction process that hinder their viability.
BIOSEA has a consortium made up of 14 research entities and private companies whose profile includes diverse industries such as aquaculture, agriculture, human and animal nutrition, textiles, cosmetics, chemical technology, and production of macro and microalgae. Together with CNTA, Spain’s partners include the Andalusian Aquaculture Technology Center (CTAQUA), Biopolis SL, Complementos de Piensos Compuestos, Dibaq and Soria Natural. To these are added the participation of the companies VITO and At ~ Sea Technologies (Belgium), Tabu (Turkey), IGV (Germany) and Van Loon Chemical Innovations and Feyecon (Netherlands).
