MEDITOMATO
Bringing innovation and sustainability along the whole value chain in the MEDIterranean TOMATO industry.
The MEDITOMATO Project, started in June 2019 and with a duration of 36 months, has as its main objective to demonstrate innovative technological solutions in 3 pilots in the countries included in the PRIMA program covering the tomato value chain (from production to processing and its distribution) which will allow the sector and especially small farmers to progress at different levels (environmental, food safety and quality, sustainability, traceability, efficiency and resource management), thus contributing to greater rural and social development of the agri-food sector in the Mediterranean area.
CNTA is directly involved in the development and calibration of two NIR devices (at-line and portable) in order to monitor, in real time, different quality parameters of fresh tomatoes.
Likewise, the platform developed in the project will allow the storage of these data together with other data on fertigation and traceability of tomato batches. This will provide companies with comprehensive, information on production and quality.
These innovative solutions will be demonstrated in 3 pilot cases located in Spain, Turkey and Italy, working with 3 different tomato varieties: Cherry tomato, Acun Hazar tomato and Kiros tomato.
MEDITOMATO has a consortium made up of 10 entities:
