Technology and knowledge for food sector competitiveness
Tecnología y conocimiento para la competitividad de la industria alimentaria
Network of omic technologies applied to the innovation and industrial development of ingredients, functional and nutraceutical foods.
PARTICIPANTS: FUNDACIO EURECAT, AINIA, ASOCIACIÓN NACIONAL DE FABRICANTES DE CONSERVAS DE PESCADOS Y MARISCOS, CENTRO TÉCNICO NACIONAL DE CONSERVACIÓN DE PRODUCTOS DE LA PESCA, CENTRO NACIONAL DE TECNOLOGÍA Y SEGURIDAD ALIMENTARIA, LABORATORIO DEL EBRO, FUNDACION AZTI – AZTI .
FINANCING: Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI) and the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
CALL: Grants for Technological Centers of Excellence “Cervera”
PRIORITY TECHNOLOGY: Development of ingredients and foods of a functional nature through the application of omic technologies.
The Tecnomifood Network will offer the food industry a comprehensive service for the development of functional foods and nutritional supplements, covering the process from the screening phase (screening based on the functional properties of the ingredient) to its formulation, testing in animals and final validation in intervention studies.
To this end, CNTA has set up the metabolomics and C. elegans platforms, also qualifying itself as a technology centre to be able to test (both in C. elegans and in cell culture) different functionalities related to lipid metabolism, immune response and oxidative stress. As for the metabolomics platform, the development of analytics with high-resolution chromatography equipment allows the determination of specific metabolites and the identification of biomarkers related to specific health functionalities.
On the other hand, within the framework of this project, CNTA is developing a tool to evaluate the impact that the different preservation technologies commonly used in the food industry have on the functionality of certain ingredients, allowing to improve the efficiency in the development of functional foods.
